The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway is Santiago as a Christ Figure. Everything about Santiago has a relation to Christ or the Bible, for example, his back against the line and his falling while carrying the mast loooks like Christ with the cross or Santiago bled and also Christ also bled. This arbitrariness inspired me strongly. Especially, the most interesting idea, which makes me admiring is in OMS, there are two Christs: the fish and the old man. They are special beings because they managed to overcome some obstructions.
