The most useful approach to use in critically analyzing The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway is Santiago as a Christ Figure. Everything about Santiago has a relation to Christ or the Bible, for example, his back against the line and his falling while carrying the mast loooks like Christ with the cross or Santiago bled and also Christ also bled. This arbitrariness inspired me strongly. Especially, the most interesting idea, which makes me admiring is in OMS, there are two Christs: the fish and the old man. They are special beings because they managed to overcome some obstructions. Today, we practiced p&d about Meiland.
I couldn't do very well because I couldn't search the good sources about my presentation.
I thought that much information helps a good presentation strongly.
But, I thought I could look around the audience.
I found that the P&D is difficult strongly.

Today, We took a power point, made a simple presentation sheet and practiced presentation.
I could be careful of some points indicated in the last class and did well.
I thought that the presentation of one who looked uneasy was looked bad.
I made up my mind to have a confidence and do dignifiedly.

ARW Blogging Assignment 5

The main characters in Old Man and the Sea are Santiago, a fisherman and Manolin, a boy who helps him.
Three adjectives that describe Santiago are lonely, stoic and kind; Santiago is lonely because he has no family, fishes alone in the Gulf Stream, so that Santiago always thinks fishing, though he has nothing except fishing. But, he is kind to Manolin because maybe Manolin is the person who Santiago can communicate and
"I remember everything from when we first went together."The old man looked at him with his sun-burned, confident loving eyes.(page 13) This part shows the kindness of Santiago to Manolin.
Three adjectives that describe Manolin are curious, positive and also kind; Manolin has always curiousness. Manolin often asks Santiago because of the curiousness. And Manolin is positive because of this sentence; "So I can get the cast net and go after the sardines." They picked up the gear from the boat...
This part shows the activeness of Manolin. And we could think Santoago and Manolin are parent and child, from their conversation because Manolin is kind to Santiago.

Today, we got how to make a good presentation and practiced the part of presentation.
I thought I knew well about the order of the performing presentation well. But I found some mistakes in my image. This class was very helpful for me.
In practicing to see audience, I felt little nervous, because I was tend to be shy.
But in the real presentation, I should not feel nervous, so that I want to try hard.

The desert survival problem

At first, I think that I can't survive at desert because of my score so that I don't decide to go to the desert.
I hear that the salt is needed for our body because it includes mineral.
But in fact, it absorbs water, which is very fatal.
I'm very surprised that cosmetic mirror is the most needful thing.
The idea that using cosmetic mirror to reflect light has an novelty.
If I were to leave in a desert, I, considering today's class, would manage to survive.

We thought that the younger should be helped as soon as possible, because they have the future. The idea was almost same. Our group thought the next was a woman because women were weaker than men, but other group thought the next was the older because they were weak. Interestingly, because of the weakness, we could have some possibility to choose who we should help. If i were to face the circumstance, i would manage to survive because i don't want to die. But everyone naturally doesn't want to die.the thought who is the best to survive is very difficult and ethical.

my comments to ASP

"Good group discussion and bad group discussion"
Obviously,good discussion is better than bad discussion.
In good discussion, the leader works well;she adjusts the time of the speaker and
asks to say equally. And the participants follow the reader, state not emotionally
but logically, hear other's openion carefully and are very positive.Especially,
I want to be the good leader like her.
"the ration of men and women in government"
I think the problem is very difficult. In my opinion, there has been a eccentric
concept in Japan:"男尊女卑"=a man is superior to a woman. Perhaps we apt to think
men should do the political activity. But in the world, women participate the government, for example the prime minister of germany is woman. In short, women can
take part in the politic. Therefore, the Japanese men Diet should consider how men and women partake in the government equally.

ASP homework

In good group, students hear every opinion, nod to the others and express their idea.
The preside works well for every one to participate. That is, every one interacts.
In bad group. students looks lazy. Someone only states her idea and do not hear other opinions so that a girl can not say her idea. Another do not participate. That is, every one disintegrates.
To do good discussion, we have to time up minutes and stimulate our mind strongly. And privately, being apt to be shy, I have to be positive to participate discussion.

Good college teachers present some information to students in the sense of what is currently believed so that a large part of work bases on current beliefs.
College requires, unlike high school, a different and higher type of understanding; a college student, who understands a material must perform another sort of intellectual work on the material i.e. critical examination and evaluation.
To achieve the understanding, good college teachers presents not authoritatively but rationally, so that college students should examine somethings which go with the theory.
Also, good college teachers presents and examines the basis on which the information is or should be believed.
Like the above, good teachers teach their students for them to be good students.
